Cosplay, short for "costume play", is an activity that involves dressing up as fictional characters. In most cases, the characters come from fantasy works, video games, comic books, manga and science fiction.

Cosplay is a common element at Comic-Con, Wonder-Con, and many other events, done for the sake of fun, but also in the spirit of competition for costume contests.
